ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
Our vibrant association comprises analysts representing diverse contemporary psychoanalytic theories. Engaged in research, publication, legislation, public education, and cultural affairs, our diverse membership ensures a psychoanalytic impact on the wider community.
To become a member of the Association, applicants must graduate from the NPAP Training Institute. Exceptionally, outstanding psychoanalysts from other institutes may be invited by the Board of Directors. The Admissions Committee may also evaluate cases from applicants trained elsewhere at its discretion.
To qualify for Senior Membership, an applicant must be an NPAP member for at least three years and meet professional achievement criteria outlined in the Association’s by-laws. The application process involves submitting a letter to the Chair of the Admissions Committee outlining the request for Senior Membership and relevant criteria.
Additional membership categories include Honorary Member and Special Member. A Special Member, distinguished in applying psychoanalytic concepts outside the field, need not be an analyst. Honorary membership may be granted for eminence in psychoanalysis or distinguished public service in interpersonal relations.
