Diverse minds shaping the future of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy
ABOUT US / WHO WE ARE
The National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis is a pioneer among psychoanalytic training institutes to train analysts from a wide variety of fields – the mental health fields, the humanities, the arts, and other related fields – to realize Sigmund Freud’s original vision for psychoanalysis.
We continue to support independent psychoanalysis within a range of psychoanalytic paradigms, embracing difference, honoring diversity, and striving for introspection and self-awareness in the world and our position in it.
The institute is fully compliant with local, state, and federal guidelines for education and clinical practices.
We proudly celebrate our legacy as the first institute to promote lay analysis, carrying that spirit forward into the future.
We are committed to both traditional psychoanalytic principles and evolving theories.
Candidates and members vote on policy and direction and can teach, analyze, supervise, run for positions, and submit proposals.
We offer affordable therapy and promote psychoanalysis in modern mental health care through practice, research, and writing. We also address issues like violence, civil liberties, and environmental destruction while affirming individual dignity.
We offer a supportive professional environment where members and candidates can build networks, form friendships, participate in study groups, and innovate together.
We welcome outstanding candidates from diverse backgrounds, fostering a community that celebrates diversity in all its forms.
