Yes, a mental health license is required for this course. Generally, applicants should possess a current license. Exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants should have some form of ongoing clinical work as part of their professional experience. Any student admitted into the program without a license may not use the program to satisfy any state licensing requirements—supervisory or otherwise. NPAP and PPLC will not be responsible for any applicant’s clinical work or for meeting licensing requirements.
Each class and workshop in the psychodynamic psychotherapy certificate program will be held live at our Institute in Greenwich Village and broadcast via Zoom. We will provide a link to each class broadcast. By clicking the link and completing a brief download, you will be able to watch and participate from your computer or phone.
NPAP is currently accredited to provide CEUs for LCSW and LP licenses. The specific CE requirements for each mental health practitioner profession may be found on the webpage dedicated to that profession. Each course in the psychodynamic psychotherapy certificate program offers 18 contact hours, while each workshop offers 3. We will provide documentation certifying attendance and indicating the number of CEUs earned.
While the psychodynamic psychotherapy program at NPAP offers certain advantages to New York State residents, qualified non-residents are also welcome to attend. Out-of-state applicants should contact the Administrative Director’s office for more details.
The psychodynamic psychotherapy program is designed to offer maximum flexibility. However, to qualify for a certificate, attendance is required for classes and group supervision experiences.
While we encourage students in our psychodynamic psychotherapy program to undergo therapy themselves, it is not a requirement for participation in the program.
